Multi-Purpose Beacon Park
Description
This park is located on a large parcel that in 2002, was originally designed for three softball/soccer fields, wetland areas and observation paths, large parking lot including designated bus parking, restrooms, concession stand, picnic shelter, horseshoe pit, outdoor basketball court, maintenance building, and master gardener planting areas.
Although the majority of funding had been secured through grants, twice the voters narrowly rejected the 60% vote needed to fund the remaining costs. The City Council at the time also declined to obligate the City for the remaining costs, and the grants expired.

History
Current Plan
The current City Council is considering much less costly plans to at least develop sport fields. So far, the City has a permit from the Army Corp of Engineers to partially fill in a wetland area. Some of the fill has been accomplished, as well as a graded and graveled road into the park.
The permit expired at the end of March 2010 and an extension to the permit for the fill work has been requested from the Army Corp of Engineers. No final decision has been made as to the future of the park.
