Bryan Park
Description
Historic park reaching about 200 yards along Pioneer Avenue. This park boasted a row of tall poplar trees and old rhododendrons. In 2006 the old trees were removed due to danger during high winds, and the rhododendrons did not survive the tree removal excavations.

Donations are being accepted to fund a replacement park. As of April 2011, over $20,000 in donations have been received.  The success of Mayor Schillinger's adopt-a-tree fundraising drive resulted in over 30 October Glory Maple trees being planted along the Bryan Parkway strip in December 2010 (see picture below). In addition to planting the new trees, the City's Public Works crew also installed 185 eco blocks to form a wall between the park and the railroad. Fill was hauled in to make the park level, and catch basins, drainage, sprinklers, and hyrdoseed were all completed in 2010.

Mayor Schillinger arranged for delivery of a large plaque honoring the donors who made the reconstruction of the park possible. The Public Works crew mounted the plaque on a large stone and placed it at the west end of Bryan Parkway across from Vessey Field. A Grand Reopening Ceremony for Bryan Park will occur on October 26, 2011 at 2 P.M. at which time the plaque will be unveiled, the donors publically honored, and additional needs communicated.

Funds are still being sought for additional monuments recognizing historical trees in the park, as well as for shrubs and landscaping. If you or your organization would like to donate to the park and be recognized on future plaques, please use the Donations form, or contact City Hall: (360) 249-3021, extension 101.
