• Leadership of the city government is by mayor and a 7-member City Council, who are elected by the voters of the City of Montesano.  The elected mayor and Council Members serve four-year terms.  Should a vacancy be filled mid-term, the person must stand for election at the next general election.
• The Governing Body, being the elected representative of the people, adopts all ordinances and resolutions and determines the general goals and policies.
• The City department managers are responsible to the City Administrator/Finance Director.
• The City Attorney is responsible to the mayor.
• Boards and commissions are established by the City Council.
