City of Montesano Police Officers

Chief Ray Sowers
Personal Message:  "Do your best, push yourself to the fullest, and always consider the consequences of your actions, then you will succeed."

Chief R. Sowers has been a police Officer since 1984. He started his career as a Police Explorer in 1980. As Police Chief, he directs crime prevention efforts, patrol, investigations, as well as other functions within the Police Department.

In his spare time he loves to camp and go golfing. Chief Sowers is active in many community groups including the Kiwanis, the school board and other community organizations working to make Montesano a better place.





Deputy Chief Vance



Deputy Chief Brett Vance
is a 1988 Graduate of Aberdeen High School, and holds a degree in Criminal Justice. Deputy Chief Vance has been in Law enforcement since 1992 when he started as a reserve Police Officer with the City of Montesano.

Deputy Chief Vance was a Lead Patrolman from 2004 to 2007 before being promoted to Deputy Chief in 2007. Deputy Chief Vance oversees daily patrol operations and investigations.




Officer Shane Green
Safety Message: Personal safety equipment use is essential. Helmets, pads, and seat belts reduce injuries and save lives.

Lead Patrol Officer Shane Green started as a Reserve Patrolman while attending college in 1987, and began his career as a full-time Police Officer in 1988. He joined the Montesano Police Department in 1996. Shane is a Lead Patrol Officer, a member of the bicycle patrol, a firearms instructor, field training officer, and evidence technician.

Officer Scott Shope is a 1985 graduate of Hoquiam High School.  Officer Shope served 4 years in the United States Marines before returning home and starting his law enforcement career.  In 1997 Officer Shope was hired by the Hoquiam Police Department as a corrections officer and in 1999 hired a full time police officer.

Officer Shope transferred to the Montesano Police Department in 2000, where he is currently the Departments firearms instructor and a member of the Bike patrol.




Officer Marcus OConnor



Officer Marcus OConnor
is a 1992 graduate of R.A. Long High School and holds a degree in Administration of Justice. Officer OConnor started his law enforcement career in Castle Rock, Washington and went on to serve for three years as the Chief of Police for the City of Vader. Officer OConnor was hired by the City of Montesano in 2004 and is currently the Departments EVOC instructor and member of the Bike patrol.






Officer David Blundred


Officer David Blundred
is a 1998 graduate of Hoquiam High School and holds a degree in Psychology from Saint Martins College. Officer Blundred Spent 6 years in with the army National Guard and worked for about five years as a residential counselor at Maple lane Juvenile Institution. Before being hired by the Montesano Police Department Officer Blundred worked for the Department of Corrections in its Aberdeen and Montesano Offices. Officer Blundred Graduated from the Basic law Enforcement academy in 2007.






Officer James Gillies


Officer James Gillies
is a Graduate of Montesano High School and holds a degree in Criminal Justice. Officer Gillies has been in law enforcement fort the past five years as a reserve with the Montesano Police department. For the past five years Officer Gillies worked for the Department of Corrections as a corrections officer at Stafford Creek. Officer Gillies graduated from the Basic Law enforcement academy in 2007.
